The Charlemagne Orchestra presented its first subscription season in 2000 at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels to an audience of 40. In the following 9 years the Orchestra has developed a large and devoted following, to the point that their number has outgrown the beautiful Conservatory Hall. The orchestra celebrated its 11th season of subscription concerts at the Flagey Studio 4 with an additional public concert at the Palais des Beaux-Arts this year.
Under the baton of founding music director, Bartholomeus-Henri Van de Velde, the Brussels-based orchestra of musicians from 27 countries offers audiences provocative and less-known works from the classical, romantic and contemporary orchestral repertoire.
They have been heard regularly in the renowned Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and throughout Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Henceforth the orchestra has taken an apt new name: The Charlemagne Orchestra for Europe.

Die Sopranistin hat eine phantastischen Stimme, und sie hat ihr sicherlich noch steigerungsfähiges Volumen hervorragend der Akkustik angepaßt. Mit Lorenzo hat sie ein ausgezeichnetes Team gebildet, das für die Musiker des Orchesters richtungsweisend war. Die Spannung dieses Werkes übertrug sich derart auf das Publikum, das man eine Stecknadel hätte fallen hören können.
Eine musikalische Glanzleistung, die zu Recht in Konkurrenz zum Concours Reine Elisabeth stand. Für meine Kinder war es etwas ganz besonderes, so nah an der Bühne zu sitzen und die Musiker zu sehen und zu hören. Die Schubert-Sinfonie war auch sehr gelungen, wir hätten hierfür unseren Platz wechseln sollen. Meine Kinder waren am Schluß ziemlich müde.
